| Antur provide training and expeditions for each Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award scheme, from bronze through to gold. Parents of school groups who are doing their DofE award with us can be rest assured that we take the utmost care in delivering a safe, quality experienceensure the activities any participants may undertake are as safe as possible.
Its our job to minimise and manage the risks....and we will help young people to assess, minimise and manage risks for themselves. Our highly trained and experienced staff will provide participants with the skills relevant to their daily lives and learn the best way to travel through the natural environment they interact with and provide them with an experience they will not soon forget! If you have any questions please check out our FAQ page. How the Scheme works: For in depth information please visit: www.dofe.org However in breif there are four elements to a DofE award or five for the Gold award. These are: Volunteering - participants must do some voluntary work towards a charitable or community scheme, or some activity they can prove benefits their community. Physical - this section purely involves the participant becoming active in some form, it also ensures the participant has a good basic fitness level ready for their expedition phase!
Skills - the participant can choose a skill they are interested in developing and improve it.
Expedition - this is where Antur steps in, we work in partnership with the participants to achieve this element of the award. We train the participants and supervise them on all aspects of training and preparation for their final assessment expedition we also provide the supervision and in most cases the assessment of the final expedition. Residential (Gold only) - this section involves the participant spending a week away from home sharing in an activity or project with people they've never met before. |
Expedition Kit List: These are items each participant must have on expedition -and we do mean each participant!
There is one peice of equipment which has not been listed yet and is usually underestimated. SOCKS! please buy good quality 'high wool content socks' you will be doing a lot of walking with a heavy rucksack on you will be rateful of the extra money you spend on these. Some of these items will be provided by us, however it is the responsibility of the individual participant to ensure they have each item on this list with them each time they go on expedition.
